We read "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. For this activity, we used coffee filters, watercolor, crayons, markers, and oil pastels. We created a design with the medium of our choice on the filter. I used white crayons to draw hearts in the middle and red and purple markers to create strips radiating from the edges toward the middle where the crayon hearts are. After I was done with drawing, I used watercolors in each section.
For an extension activity I could have each student create a
planet and write a short story about what their planet is like and who lives on
it etc.
